Director Eyed for “Justice League of America”?

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

justiceleagueIs the director of “Happy Feet” considering working with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern on his next project? That is the latest rumor to emerge from the internet. After “Happy Feet” proved to be a $380 million dollar box office hit worldwide, movie studio Warner Bros. has likely elevated the film’s director, George Miller, to the top of its standings. Two entertainment websites have reported that Miller is now the front-runner to helm a “Justice League of America” movie that would see five of DC Comics best-known heroes join forces, a feat that hasn’t happened yet on the big screen. Warner Bros. released “Superman Returns” last year and is planning on releasing the second Batman movie that will star Christian Bale next summer so already audiences are familiar with two young actors playing the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight. Work on live-action “Wonder Woman” and “Flash” movies has never quite gotten off the ground so a five hero movie may be the perfect opportunity to launch new superhero movie franchises for the studio. Supposedly Warner Bros. is more eager to make a “Justice League” movie first than a sequel to “Superman Returns”.

A screenplay is being written for the “Justice League” film and if Miller agrees to do it filming wouldn’t be able to start until after Christian Bale completes his duties on “The Dark Knight” later this year. Additionally the budget for making all of these heroes fly and fight on-screen would likely propel the movie’s budget upwards of $200 million dollars.
