Warner International Pictures and two of the original producers of “Enter the Dragon” are remaking Bruce Lee’s legendary martial arts action fest. The new film will be called “Awaken the Dragon” and be set in the underground world of fight clubs in Asia. A lone FBI agent is assigned to capture a rogue Shaolin monk who is a star fighter on the circuit and so he must enter the bloody tournaments and fight. The producers want to cast an American actor in the role of the FBI agent and a real martial arts fighter in the role of the villain.

The movie will be directed by Kurt Sutter, an executive producer on the gritty cop show “The Shield”. Sutter will also write the screenplay for the movie and has promised to make the martial arts fighting as realistic and mean as the violence seen in his TV series. “I wanted to set it in these underground fight clubs where the action is really raw and expose the brutality of Shaolin kung fu. This will be more ‘Raging Bull‘ than ‘Crouching Tiger‘ in its viciousness,” said Sutter to entertainment magazine Variety.

The original “Enter the Dragon” was released in 1973 and has become the best-known of Bruce Lee’s movies. In it Lee played a karate professional that is recruited to infiltrate an island where drug smuggling is taking place.
